Eight die as Charter plane crashes near US Air Force Radar site in Alaska

Eight individuals have lost their lives after an accident involving a civilian-contracted aircraft that crashed in a remote area owned by the United States Air Force in Alaska.

The aircraft crashed at the airfield of a long-range radar facility in Cape Newenham, which is in southwestern Alaska, the Alaska Command said Thursday.

Those who reached the scene of the accident confirmed that all the eight people on board were dead.

The military did not reveal the identity and nationality of the individuals on board or why they were at the radar facility, which is used to monitor aircraft operating in Alaskan airspace.

A spokesperson for the Alaskan Command stated that an investigation is currently underway regarding the cause of the crash while the identity of the victims will be made public later once the family members have been informed.

“This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” said Alaskan Command chief, Lieutenant General Robert Davis.

“These individuals were dedicated professionals carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment,” Davis added.
