There has been confusion after the kidnapping of one of the chieftains of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, along with two other people in Oko-Irese, in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to reports, Fabiyi was kidnapped together with a driver and an associate while he was on his way to pay ransom money and other items meant for ensuring that the previously kidnapped individual is released from captivity.

Reports indicated that the team had in its possession close to ₦30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice when they were waylaid by gunmen at the point where Kwara State and Kogi State meet through a forest route.

It has been reported that this ransom mission was connected with an attempt to get one of the previously kidnapped individuals released from captivity, but that he was murdered by the kidnappers before the ransom money team got there.

The kidnappers were alleged to have stopped the group along the way and taken them into the forest before taking them hostage by gunpoint.

It was alleged that Fabiyi had been spiritually warned to stop from taking the journey, but he went ahead anyway.

The case did not find its way to security operatives right away as stated by local sources.

When contacted about this development, Ojo Adekimi, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, stated that the police command had not received any report on the kidnapping of the OPC chieftain yet but promised that once this happens, the case will be investigated.

Security is still a major concern in the area.
