Reps in uproar over motion to summon Tinubu

The House of Representatives witnessed a tumultuous meeting on Wednesday after a clash between the legislators over a motion aimed at forcing President Bola Tinubu to appear before the House due to failure to fund constituency projects.

The motion was introduced by Alex Mascot Ikwechegh (LP, Abia State), calling on President Bola Tinubu to appear before the House and justify the incessant failure to fund constituency projects.

The motion was seconded, and an amendment was proposed by another legislator requesting the House to adjourn from plenary for one week.

The motions immediately sparked a debate on the floor of the Green Chamber.

Yusuf Gagdi (APC, Plateau State) opposed the motion, arguing that there was no justification for inviting the President, insisting that the implementation and funding of constituency projects fall under the responsibilities of the relevant ministries, departments and agencies.

Gagdi also rejected the proposal to suspend legislative activities for one week, describing it as unnecessary.

His submission drew strong opposition from several lawmakers, resulting in shouting matches and disorder in the chamber.

As tensions escalated, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas intervened to restore order and directed that the House vote on the matter to determine its position.
