Four Senior Police officers sacked as PSC disciplines 31 over misconduct

Four senior police officers have been sacked while another thirty-one have been disciplined due to several acts of misconduct by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Speaking through its spokesperson Torty Njoku Kalu, the four officers were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct, and conduct that was not befitting of public servants.

Kalu revealed that the disciplinary process of the four and the other thirty-one took place during the plenary session that was conducted in Abuja.

According to him, ten police officers were downgraded in rank, two were compulsorily retired, while three others were given written warnings. Seven were found not guilty and were exonerated.

“In addition to the dismissals, the commission approved a range of disciplinary actions which affected multiple officers,” the PSC spokesperson said.

“Ten senior officers received reductions in rank: three Superintendents of Police were reduced to Deputy Superintendents of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police to Assistant Superintendents of Police, and five Assistant Superintendents of Police to Inspectors. Two officers were also compulsorily retired in the public interest.

“Other sanctions included severe reprimands issued to ten officers, reprimands to five officers, warning letters to three officers, and a letter of advice to one officer. In addition, seven officers were exonerated and cleared of wrongdoing.”

Speaking on the development, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, PSC chairman, said the commission will not tolerate indiscipline within the rank and file.

Argungu said the commission will continue to uphold discipline in the force and ensure that any form of misconduct carries the appropriate disciplinary actions.
