‘Gbajabiamila knew about my appointment’ – Presidency’s ‘fake agency’ suspect, says court will vindicate me

Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is under accusations of pretending to be the Director-General of the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Presidential Economic Advisory Council, denies all allegations, claiming that the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, knew about his appointment.

The defendant, who is accused of impersonation and other crimes, said the matter was already pending in court and assured that justice would exonerate him.

While addressing a phone interview on the show ‘Politics Today’ of Channels Television on Thursday, he claimed that he was not dodging justice.

“Not at all,” he said when asked if he was running away from the law.

He added that he was prepared to face the legal process, maintaining that the court would determine the truth.

“Definitely, if I am wrong, let the court of law do that; if I am right, let the court of law do the right thing. Since the matter is in the court, let the court of competent jurisdiction vindicate me because I am ready to clear my name.

“Let the court take its course. Since my lawyers are involved, everybody will follow us, they will monitor the whole thing. I have a letter of appointment. However, since the matter is in the court, I won’t be able to say much about it. I am on medication. I am a bit down, I am sick,” he said.

Responding to a question on whether he considered himself a criminal, Adeyemi replied, “No, I am not a criminal. However, the court will do justice to that.”

Asked whether Gbajabiamila had knowledge of his appointment, Adeyemi answered, “Yes.”

When further asked if he received confirmation of the appointment through the Chief of Staff’s office, he again responded, “Yes, let the court vindicate all those things.”

Addressing Nigerians, Adeyemi questioned the allegation that the agency was fictitious, arguing that he could not have operated publicly for years without official backing.

“I want Nigerians to know that, for one second, let us assume the agency does not exist, would I have the temerity, the audacity, to be going all over the country, meeting the heads of ministries, departments and agencies, if I knew that the agency did not exist?

“No Nigerian can dare do that. I could not have summoned the courage to be going from one place to another for almost three years. Nigeria is not a banana republic,” he said.

Earlier, the Presidency had rejected Adeyemi’s allegations by saying that he was an imposter, and there were no such organizations as Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Presidential Economic Advisory Council in the composition of the Federal Government.

Additionally, the Presidency said that Adeyemi was not appointed by President Bola Tinubu, and he was currently under investigation for forgery and other crimes.
