EU Ambassador meets Atiku over 2027 elections, Nigeria-EU ties

The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, held discussions with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, at his official residence in Abuja regarding matters that were of common interest, particularly Nigeria’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.

The former vice president took to his official social media platforms to share more information about the discussion which also revolved around the need to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and the European Union.

As per the former vice president, the ambassador’s visit was greatly appreciated while the European Union was highly commended for its consistent efforts towards ensuring credible, free, and fair elections in Nigeria.

Also commended was the effort made by the European Union towards improving Nigeria’s economic situation.

“This afternoon, I had the honour of hosting His Excellency Ambassador Gautier Mignot, Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, at my residence in Abuja.

“We engaged in productive discussions on issues of mutual interest between Nigeria and the EU, with particular emphasis on the upcoming general elections. I expressed my appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and for the European Union’s ongoing commitment to supporting free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections, as well as efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economy,” Atiku wrote.

The meeting comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum across the country.
