2027: Peter Obi, Dickson meet behind closed doors over party disputes
Ex-Bayelsa State Governor and Senator, Seriake Dickson, has officially confirmed his participation in the closed door meeting with Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in order to help reduce the tension that has been witnessed in the party lately.
The details of the meeting were provided by Seriake Dickson in a statement issued Thursday. Dickson explained that Peter Obi paid him a visit together with other leading figures from the party in order to discuss the matter for about three hours.
As explained by the ex-governor, the meeting helped the participants to examine some recent happenings in the party and discuss any matter that could have made the party members worried. He added that all the issues raised were sorted out.
“I just received my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr Peter Gregory Obi, CON, our presidential candidate, who, together with some distinguished leaders of our party, held a closed-door meeting which lasted about three hours,” Dickson said.
He added that both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the party and positioning it for future electoral success.
Dickson stressed that the objective of their collaboration remains focused on winning elections and providing Nigerians with an alternative to the current ruling party.
“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, that is, winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government,” he stated.
He further explained that while disagreements had arisen in recent times, party leaders had now agreed on mechanisms to manage internal issues going forward.
The senator also appealed to party members and supporters to end internal bickering and focus on unity and collective political goals.
He assured that consultations between himself, Peter Obi, and other key stakeholders would continue as part of efforts to strengthen cohesion within the party.
According to him, the leadership remains committed to what he described as the broader mission of rebuilding Nigeria and restoring confidence in governance.
The meeting is seen as a major step toward calming tensions within the party and reinforcing unity ahead of future electoral engagements.
