Chief Imam, 3 others killed as bandits launch deadly attack on Sokoto community

Residents of Kuda-Kuda village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been thrown into mourning following a deadly attack by suspected bandits that claimed the lives of the community’s Chief Imam and three other residents.

The attack, which reportedly occurred overnight, has left the community gripped by fear and uncertainty as armed assailants stormed the village, unleashing violence on unsuspecting residents.

According to local sources, the attackers invaded the area under the cover of darkness, causing panic as gunshots echoed through the community. Among those killed was the village’s Chief Imam, a respected religious leader whose death has sent shockwaves across the area.

Three other residents were also reportedly killed during the raid, while many villagers fled their homes in search of safety as the attackers moved through the community.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks that have continued to affect communities across parts of Sokoto State and the wider North-West region, where residents frequently face threats from armed bandits involved in killings, kidnappings, and other criminal activities.

Community members have expressed grief over the loss of the victims and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect rural communities from recurring attacks.

The killing of the Chief Imam has particularly deepened the sorrow in Kuda-Kuda village, with residents describing him as a respected spiritual leader who played a significant role in promoting peace and unity within the community.
