AC Milan, one of the most successful teams in Italian football, has confirmed the hiring of Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim as the manager of the club after many rumors about who will lead AC Milan.

The Portuguese manager has been hired by the Rossoneri in the wake of rumors that linked him with AC Milan after his termination from his role at Manchester United.

BBC Sport reported that Amorim is signed to a deal that would last two years.

The 41-year-old manager makes a comeback into coaching after he had quit his job as Manchester United’s manager five months ago. According to reports, Amorim has opted to give up on his remaining year of wages from Manchester United. He won 24 games out of the 63 he coached before his sacking from the Premier League side.

In making the announcement, AC Milan referred to Amorim as a coach with a “modern dominant tactical approach”.

“There are ambitions that stay with you throughout your career, and coaching AC Milan has always been one of mine,” Amorim said.

“I know exactly what this club means: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world. It is a challenge I embrace with pride and enthusiasm.”

Before his spell at Old Trafford, Amorim earned widespread acclaim at Sporting CP, leading the Portuguese club to two league titles and establishing himself as one of Europe’s most highly rated young managers.

His first match in charge of Milan will come during pre-season against Celtic on July 25, before an intriguing meeting with former club Manchester United in Wroclaw on August 15.

Milan will hope Amorim can restore the club to the top of Italian and European football after a disappointing campaign that ended without Champions League qualification.
