Nigerian medical student dies after sustaining injuries in Russian Airstrike

Medical student Nnani Adaobi Marian studying in her last year at Kharkiv National Medical University has passed away due to serious injuries following the Russian airstrike that took place in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

This development has been confirmed by the Ukrainian journalist and commentator, Kateryna Bohuslavska, who is famously referred to as “Kate from Kharkiv.” Bohuslavska stated that the young woman suffered life-threatening injuries following the Russian aerial bombardment of the Kholodnohirskyi district in Kharkiv, which happened on June 29, 2026.

According to Kateryna Bohuslavska, Adaobi and her close friend, Fatima Huseynova, were traveling to have their graduation pictures taken the day before getting their medical degrees when the bombarding took place.

Whereas Fatima lost her life instantly, Adaobi was taken for medical assistance, initially in Kharkiv and then Germany, but unfortunately passed away from the injuries on July 5, 2026.

According to Kharkiv National Medical University, Adaobi was a bright, diligent, and caring student who joined the university in 2020, and always performed excellently in her academic pursuits.

It was observed that she attended medical internships at the University of Cambridge in 2024 and Biruni University in 2025 to develop her professional and research capabilities.

Kharkiv National Medical University emphasized that Adaobi will be “a bright student, a nice person and an essential member of the Kharkiv National Medical University family,” and conveyed their condolences to her family members, friends, and fellow students.
