Tensions reportedly ran high in some areas of Benue State on Tuesday following the alleged act of some thugs blocking a highway almost immediately after the arrival of the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the state.

The story was made known by Obi’s media person, Esther Umoh, who released videos of the occurrence on her X page.

According to Umoh, the alleged incident occurred shortly after Obi and members of his entourage arrived in Benue.

She claimed that some individuals believed to be sponsored thugs blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base in an attempt to prevent the former Anambra State governor from gaining access into the state.

“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” Umoh wrote.

In another video shared by the aide, some individuals could be seen running behind vehicles in the convoy.

Umoh alleged that the individuals were attempting to attack the entourage, although the identities of those involved and the circumstances surrounding their actions could not immediately be independently established.

It was also unclear what triggered the incident or whether the road blockade was specifically targeted at Obi’s convoy.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Benue State Government nor the state police command had publicly commented on the allegation.

Further details on the incident, including whether any arrests were made or whether anyone was injured, were also not immediately available.
