President Tinubu okays cabinet reshuffle, removes Wale Edun, Dangiwa as ministers
The Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sanctioned a slight restructuring of the country’s cabinet, leading to the alteration of the composition of the Federal Executive Council.
This has come to light through a memorandum that was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The memorandum reveals that the two members of the cabinet, Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa, will no longer be part of the cabinet.
Edun, who has until now held the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, will have to hand over his responsibilities to Taiwo Oyedele.
Additionally, Muttaqha Rabe Darma is nominated and designated as the minister of the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.
It was also instructed in the memo that Dangiwa should transfer responsibilities to the minister of state in the ministry.
The memo indicated that the handover and takeovers should be completed not later than 23rd April, 2026.
Giving an explanation of why the president made the move, Akume stated that: “These are changes meant to ensure that there is better synergy, cohesion in governance and greater impactful delivery on the economy to the people of Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda”.
It is worth noting that, in making the appointment and nomination, the president has fully used his discretion under Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).
Finally, the president appreciated the outgoing ministers for their service to the country and wished them well in whatever they may choose to do in the future.
The president also reassured all members of the cabinet that the process of rejuvenation would continue.
