15 CAC worshippers regain freedom after 67 days in captivity in Ekiti
Worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igbala, Eda Oniyo-Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State have been freed after being held captive for 67 days.
The kidnapped worshippers were finally freed on Friday evening as fears mounted among the people and families concerned since the kidnapping ordeal started.
They are said to have landed in Eda Oniyo in the early hours of Friday morning and they were rushed to a health center for checkup and treatment because of the suffering they went through.
The worshippers were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when bandits attacked a revival program organized by the church in the Oke Igbala prayer mountain.
The attackers allegedly fired bullets at the churchgoers, killing the pastor and kidnapping 15 others who they took to the forest.
A statement confirming the news on Saturday indicated that the hostages had managed to get their freedom after spending several weeks in captivity.
However, he further added that one of the hostages passed away during the period of captivity, which was seen as a tragic loss for his family and the whole community.
At the time of reporting this story, the Ekiti State Police Command had not yet officially made any statement regarding the release of the hostages.
Attempts to speak to the press spokesman proved futile.
