Abba Kabir Yusuf has proposed Murtala Sule Garo for screening and approval as the new deputy governor of Kano State to the State House of Assembly.

This has been announced in a press statement released late Tuesday evening through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.

Upon acceptance by the House, Garo will serve in his new role as deputy governor to fill the vacancy in the state government.

“This is based on the provisions of Section 191(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) empowering the Governor to nominate a Deputy Governor in case of vacancy,” stated the press release.

It should be recalled that the deputy governorship became vacant due to the recent resignation of Comrade Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.

The statement further stated that, “After extensive consultations among relevant stakeholders, the Governor has approached the Assembly for approval of Garo’s nomination.”

Garo, aged 48, is an experienced politician with over two decades of political administration experience in both elected and appointed positions. He has worked as the State Organising Secretary of his party, the Governor’s Special Adviser, and chairman of the Kabo Local Government Area of the State.

He also served in various capacities such as chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) of the State and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

During the 2023 general elections, he was the running mate to the APC party’s gubernatorial candidate of Kano State.
