Bauchi Primary: “Tinubu shouldn’t decide governorship candidate for us” – Tuggar

The former minister, Yusuf Tuggar, has decried how the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Bauchi State was chosen, stating that the party did not organize a primary election in line with democracy.

On the issue, Tuggar stated that it was made known to the stakeholders of the APC that their governorship candidate for the state, Muhammad Abubakar, was preselected.

He further stated that the selection was said to have gotten the go-ahead from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leaving no avenue for organizing an election among party members.

Tuggar opined that the development is a negation of democracy and has deprived members of the opportunity to select their favorite candidate through an election.

“This is not democracy. The President should not be choosing governorship candidates for us,” Tuggar said while expressing dissatisfaction with the process.

He further alleged that there was no primary election in Bauchi State, insisting that party members were simply informed that Muhammad Abubakar had been chosen as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 governorship race.

The former minister also claimed that the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, personally appealed to President Tinubu to prevent him from contesting for the party’s governorship ticket.
