Former Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai has been granted bail at ₦100 million bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on suspicion of violation of national security.

In its ruling on the application for bail filed on Monday, Judge Joyce Abdulmalik ordered the granting of bail to the accused, but under certain strict conditions.

Accordingly, the former governor is expected to provide one surety who should have equal financial standing. The judge further said that the surety should be living in either the Maitama or Asokoro area of Abuja and must produce a copy of the certificate of occupancy of landed property at the registry of the court.

One of the bail conditions is that all valid international passports shall be handed over to the court by El-Rufai.

It was also ruled that a verification letter from the department where the surety works directly be produced in addition to a tax clearance for the last six months.

Furthermore, Justice Abdulmalik instructed that the defendant reports to the headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS, on every last Friday of the month at 10 o’clock in the morning to sign an attendance sheet until the determination of the case.

He also emphasized that non-compliance would result in automatic cancellation of the bail.

Finally, he ordered that El-Rufai produces a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.

The court ruled for a speedy hearing of the charge laid against El-Rufai by the government of Nigeria.
