The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has declared void the emergence of Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as the APC senatorial candidate for Zamfara North for the year 2027.

In its ruling, the court, which was led by Justice Hassan Dikko, directed the APC to undertake another primary election within 14 days.

The decision was made following a lawsuit filed by a senatorial aspirant of APC, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who contested the results of the primary election earlier conducted by the party.

Kaura had emerged victorious at the APC primary held on May 19, 2026, after securing 65,642 votes to defeat other aspirants, including Shinkafi, Hannafi Musa-Moriki and Tijjani Yahaya.

However, the court’s ruling has effectively voided the outcome of the exercise and removed the basis for Kaura’s claim to the APC ticket for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.

The ruling means the APC is now required to organise another primary within the 14-day period stipulated by the court.

The fresh exercise will provide Kaura and other eligible aspirants another opportunity to contest for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to the judgment, Shinkafi welcomed the decision, describing it as a positive outcome for his legal challenge.

The development comes as political parties intensify preparations and internal processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
