President Tinubu in closed-door meeting with Speaker Abbas, Reps Members at Aso Villa

President Bola Tinubu met in a closed session with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, accompanied by some of his colleagues from the House, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday.

The discussion occurred right after the lawmakers attended the Jummah prayers with the President at the State House mosque. Notably, it did not feature in the day’s schedule of activities for the President.

It was revealed that the Speaker and some other members of the House, among them the Chief Whip of the House, Usman Kumo from Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe State, APCEP, attended the meeting.

Not much is known about what the session entailed. Indeed, aides to the President have no information on what transpired during their closed discussion.

“Without doubt, it is impossible to say whether they are demanding the same thing the senators demand,” a source said, adding that similar talks have taken place between the President and Senate leadership previously.

The talks are happening just two days after Senate President Godswill Akpabio led other members of the Senate to another round of closed-door talks with the President, with political engagements stepping up in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The ongoing engagements come in the wake of media reports of demands by the lawmakers for guarantees on return tickets before the next round of elections, while it is alleged that the presidency believes that the state governors continue to hold sway over the choice of candidates of the ruling party.

As the APC presidential primaries draw closer, there appears to be an escalation in political engagements within the ruling party.
