FG declares May 27, 28 public holidays for Eid-ul-Adha celebration
The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026 as holidays in observance of this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebrations.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an effort aimed at helping the Muslims throughout the country celebrate one of the holiest days in the Islamic faith.
The occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, which is otherwise referred to as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the act of devotion of Prophet Ibrahim who demonstrated his unwavering dedication to God.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Minister by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the government reiterated the importance it attaches to the religious observance of millions of Nigerian Muslims alongside other Muslims from all over the world.
“The Ministry congratulates the Muslim faithful on both home soil and in the diaspora for observing this festival of great significance which symbolizes total sacrifice to God and care for others,” the statement said.
The minister extended greetings to all Nigerian Muslims on behalf of the Federal Government while emphasizing the holiness of Eid-ul-Adha as a day that reflects sacrifice and obedience to God.
“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement said.
