There was a fire outbreak on Wednesday which affected some parts of the wing occupied by the Nigerian Senate located in the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, resulting in an activity break down in the upper legislative house.

It has been reported that the fire took place at Hearing Room 107 immediately after the screening of a nominee Zainab Marwa for membership of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

From the available information, the fire broke out in the kitchen part of the hearing room, and reports suggested that it might be caused by a switched-on microwave.

Among the senators who tried to put out the fire were Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong and Salihu Mustapha.

Fortunately, the fire was put off immediately before it spread to other parts of the hearing room, and luckily no one lost his life in the process.

The activities in the house were immediately back to normal after the fire was put off.

Nonetheless, journalists who witnessed the burning incident alleged that committee members asked them to destroy the pictures and videos they had taken during the occurrence.
