Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president of Nigeria, has recognized that the Nigerian youths are becoming politically aware and powerful, such that they have the capacity to use their voting power against any administration that does not satisfy their demands.

On the growing political consciousness of the youths in Nigeria, Bola stated that there was an increase in the engagement, digitization, and outspokenness of the younger people regarding issues of governance.

In his view, this development represents a new era in the country’s democratic process, where the leaders cannot assume the goodwill of the people anymore.

It was observed that topics relating to employment creation, education, innovation, and youth empowerment still rank high on his government’s agenda, especially considering that young Nigerians are referred to as the “hope” of their country.

In his opinion, such an attitude from the youths is an indication of change in the Nigerian democratic society since people can now criticize their leaders by voting for them during elections.

These views emanate when the 2027 general election in Nigeria is fast approaching; hence, discussions surrounding the elections have become frequent. It has been argued that due to Nigeria’s large youth population, youths will decide who wins the elections in 2027.

According to Central Post Nigeria, President Tinubu had previously called on the young people of his nation to engage actively in governance, business, technology, and development as one way of promoting a sustainable economy.

The comments generated a reaction from different people in Nigeria who were discussing the government’s performance and how youths were gaining more power politically through voting.
