There was a wave of relief on Sunday morning after the final 13 of the 20 kidnapped Benue Links Bus passengers secured their freedom in Benue State.

According to sources, among the victims who were set free include eight prospective JAMB candidates, who were supposed to write the exams before their kidnapping.

This news was announced by the Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Ifeanyi Enemari, in an interview with reporters in Makurdi early Sunday morning.

“Today, we set the passengers free from the kidnappers and they are making their way back to Makurdi, and then once they get here, there will be a press conference,” he explained.

The kidnapping took place on Wednesday near Otukpo, in Ikobi, where armed bandits ambushed the Benue Links Bus which was conveying people to the town.

As earlier announced by the Benue Police, seven suspected bandits have been apprehended by the law enforcement agents in relation to the incident, marking a breakthrough in their efforts to rescue the victims.

It should be noted that during the arrest of the bandits, some passengers managed to escape safely.
